The Hairbert Gallery. A short review of the Corona Frustration in the winter of 2021.

Inside Hairbert by christian zich

On 25.1.2021 he saw the light of day or rather he was born on a drawing pad, the Hairbert. He was born out of my personal frustration about the lockdown and all the associated inconveniences, this case the constantly growing hair and the missing visit to the hairdresser.

I was surprised by the positive response behind this art figure. I would not have thought. In the course of the last months I drew the one or other frustration from my soul and each of these small works of art had something to do with Corona and the Lockdown. I’ve been encouraged from many people to continue Hairbert, but honestly, I’ve run out of ideas at the moment. And in no way do I want to keep the little hairy guy alive under stress, so I’m sending him into an artistic slumber for now.

Maybe I’ll wake him up again once I’ve collected enough ideas and when the time is just right.

At the moment my focus is back on the music and the creative realization of the next EP with the simple yet apt name Franz.

A long birth, because musically Franz was born about a year ago and he unfortunately had to go through some musical-creative sinks. Now he is but slowly fledged, I currently rather shirk the mixdown. More about that in another place.

Stay tuned.

One Track or Album per Week, Number 2: Klaus Schulze, Mirage.

One Track or Album per Week, Number 2: Klaus Schulze, Mirage.

In the 30 Days Challenge I introduced one of my favorite albums pretty much at the beginning: Klaus Schulze, Timewind. But there are two more LPs of the artist in my record collection: Body Love and Blackdance.

In the last weeks I thought over and over again whether I should buy one of the two as a download or as a CD again. After a long time of thinking, however, I came to the conclusion that the latter is too similar to Timewind and that there is only one real electronic firecracker on the first LP.

Instead, during my search I stumbled upon another album by the artist, which I fell in love with almost at first sight: Mirage.

On this album you can find everything that makes Klaus Schulze: sound carpets, synthesizer – chirping, now and then a few percussions. Quiet, meditative music. To relax and switch off. In addition, the tracks are extremely long; summa summarum: does not fit at all in this time, in which everything must go faster and faster and songs in Spotify are listened to only a few seconds. On the other hand, give it a try.

A Corona-Lockdown01-Flashback DJ Set – the positive message from wirkultur

the positive message from wirkultur, exg media and prof. christian zich in Landau

15 months ago I was standing all alone on stage at the Stadthalle in Landau, Germany, performing a DJ set. The exg media guys put together a great program back in those days, wirkultur. The basic idea behind it is told relatively quickly: to give artists the opportunity to send a positive, creative-artistic message to the whole world in the first Shutdown 2020. At that time, perhaps most people thought that by the end of the summer it was all just a bad dream and we could get back to day-to-day business.

I don’t need to tell you the rest, you know it yourselves. Nothing was over in the fall, the long, cold winter 2020/2021 increased the frustration of 7 months Shutdown02 again immeasurably (at least felt).

March 2020 it was somehow a funny feeling to DJ without audience and dance floor. In any case, a very nice experience and once again many thanks to the guys and gals from exg Media. It was a great experience.

Let’s have a look at the video? Here we are…

One Track or Album per Week, Number 1: Frank Zappa, Joes Garage.

Frank Zappa Joe‘s Garage

Some time ago I participated in a challenge, 30 LP’s in 30 days. This was quite a demanding task, but it was a lot of fun. Fortunately in my music collection you will find other CDs and many downloads which are crying for an appreciation. I’m going to take it easy now and present one of my favorite tracks or albums every week. Let’s start with one of my highlights.

Highlight of the week: Frank Zappa, Joe’s Garage.

I bought this album when I was 17, primarily because Zappa was the bourgeois terror par excellence in America at that time, because he had “interesting” lyrics and his music covered a very wide range, from chaotic and weird to catchy melodic.

When I decided to just march in the direction of punk, I sold the album. This annoyed me so much after a few years, therefore I had to buy it again as a double CD. For me Joe’s garage is the best album Zappa has produced and the perfect background music for long car rides.

Burn that track! At least that’s what Luca Debonaire says.

Hey, the dance floor will burn again, when the clubs are allowed to open again. And then we will play house until the early morning, we will groove until we drop and – if we still have the strength – we will boogie all night long.

Have fun with my house set, the may edition.
