One Track or Album per Week: Deine Lakaien - Acoustic

Today we dive a little deeper into my music history. Not as deep as with “The Cure”, but a few years later. We are in the 90s, in the middle of the Darkwave, Electro Wave, New Wave and Post-Punk era. I have no idea how I stumbled across the formation Deine Lakaien, but from the beginning I liked the combination of the dark, yearning sound, the focus on electronic instruments and the singer’s sonorous voice.

This week’s album of the week is a live album, recorded in 1995. What I like most about this album is that, for once, there are only vocals and piano. Not electronic, only analog. For me personally very exciting interpretations of the classics released up to that time. While researching on the Internet I found out that I am the proud owner of a limited edition. Quite a long time ago. Have fun listening:

Haus der Kunst Munich, Phyllida Barlow. Is waste art?

On May 26th this year, it was finally allowed to visit a museum again after the long lockdown. After a short inquiry it was clear to me that I absolutely had to see the exhibition of Phyllida Barlow at the Haus der Kunst. The brief description promised an exciting experience in art:

Phyllida Barlow‘s sculptural structures are unwieldy and difficult to take in: timber, cardboard, cement, clay, plastic pipes, and colorful textiles pile up, spread out, or block the visitors’ way. The view ranges over these landscapes made of everyday materials, unsure what to hold on to, and drifts up to grasp their enormous dimensions. Barlow‘s works pose a constant challenge; they conquer the space as if they led a life of their own. They invite viewers to reconsidering spaces, perceive volume, and hear the language of architecture.

The museum’s website has a lot more really fascinating information, videos, pictures, etc. about the exhibition. Worth seeing!

My expectations were accordingly high and in no way disappointed. I was totally thrilled by the dimensions of the artworks and especially by the wacky ideas of the artist. I’ll just let the photos (see gallery) speak for themselves and refrain from commenting. However, one experience left a lasting impression on me. As I strolled around one of the artworks, a museum employee approached me and told me that it was allowed to go inside the artwork. What a fascinating experience. One Track or Album per Week, Number 8: Zimmz - Sinematic.

Last year, during one of my expeditions into the depths of Beatport, I once again stumbled across a new artist, Zimmz. this was one of the few matches that day.

The music stands out – in contrast to the usual suspects in the Beatport top 100 – not with the ACIDish croaking that is common at the moment, but with an interesting, cinematic sound. The first time I played this track was on 3/13/2020. It will always stay in my memory, because this was the last (legal) gig with a full dance floor and some guests asked me what kind of track this was. Obviously it went down well with the audience. tante techno’s tea time – dj set july 2021.

DJ Set: tante techno's tea time July 2021

She came, saw and played. Who? Tante Techno, of course. Her set was so powerful, so impressive and enraged Thor. A storm came up, the first lightnings twitched and then it rained cats and dogs. The world was floating away, the end was near. The people begged for mercy. Then Tante Techno swung up and showed Thor who really holds the hammer in his hand. In the end, all was well again.

Nice story, isn’t it? Unfortunately, the short version is not so spectacular: I recorded the set in the sorgenfrei during a thunderstorm. But the story is funnier. Have fun listening to it.

One of my all-time favorites. No idea how old I was when one of my friends came along with this LP. Of course I recorded it on cassette and listened to it hundreds of times with enthusiasm. And that’s why I bought the CD a few years ago.

There is not much to say about the sound, in my opinion the freshest and also one of the most positive CDs of the band. Many of the following albums are definitely much too gloomy for me. Have fun listening:

One Track or Album per Week, Number 6: Archie Bronson Outfit - Derdang Derdang.

Garage rock, a pinch of alternative country, in between poppy hooklines, but always rumbling, weird and unconventional.

This diffuse mixture characterizes Archie Bronson Outfit quite well, in my opinion. It’s a pity actually, because with this they are so far away from the mainstream that they will probably never leave their musical niche.

Looking for something special in my music collection, I stumbled across this album today. I had totally forgotten about them, but stage set for Archie Bronson outfit. Have fun listening to it:
